Program Images from Basic Shapes

Picture
Layers of Design from bottom to top in code:
  1. Background
  2. Circle- center of flower
  3. Triangles- flower petals
  4. Circle- baby cactus
  5. Ellipse-  base branch of cactus
  6. Square- brighter orange section of the pot
  7. Square- terra cotta main body of pot
  8. Lines- thorns on cactus
Additional steps in the process:
  • Changed the background canvas to 1000 x 1000 px for a larger view and easy round number to work with when coding point parameters
  • Set the alignment of the rectangle to center instead of top left to make it easier to center on the background and to later align with the cactus
  • Created  a variety of colors  by adjusting RGB in the fill () function

Basic Design Using Shapes
Challenges, Solutions, Reflections:
The triangles that make up the petals of the  pink flower were the most difficult. Once I started  duplicating and moving them to form the flower, I lost track of which corner point in the plane that I was adjusting.

I began by drawing and sketching out a rough grid paper system, similar to the rule of thirds, not understanding the importance of graphing the coordinates before beginning the coding in Processing. This is something I will do going forward as a novice coding creator.
I do not have any formal training in drawing or painting. So first I started with some YouTube tutorials, learning how to draw using basic shapes.
  • Because I wasn't sure if I would be able to tilt object- shapes , I chose the cactus for this project.
  • I gave it the appearance of tilting by layering the (main branch of the cactus (ellipse) on top of the budding cactus  (circle).
